So I found something rudimentary online that has helped me look at this data and what it would look like in the chart itself. Now this one doesn’t have everything I would want like the initial drawing that I did in my last tweet, for all that need a refresher this is what it looked like, gotta love photoshop:
With respect to Josh’s donut chart I think the muti axis isn’t going to work because none of my data has negative numbers and once you remove the negative numbers it turns into a single axis chart anyway. The part I am struggling with is how to make the legend. So here is:
I have figured out how to break apart the data so that it plots on an X and Y axis based on the groupings ie. Summary Variables, Affect Words, Cognitive Process and Core Drives.
Data snapshot above 🙂
But the legend so far is showing all the tweets and I am not sure how to eliminate that…and yes each of these tweets has all the data, but it does plot the only troublesome part is the Summary Variables have much higher numbers than the other groupings and it throws off the balance of the chart a bit. Here is what it would look like (again rudimentary and missing some buttons:
This is only showing one grouping and the legend, which I don’t want that to be the case
This is more what I want to see but where the X is it would be Analytic and Y would be Clout. So a bit different than I had layed out in my previous diagram but I think this makes more sense.
- I have 491 items that have 5 different groups (X and Y axis) of data
- The x and y axis names would change based on the groupings.
- Two filter sets, one with two variables and one with three variables.
- Tooltip hover will be assigned to the Tweets
But what I am struggling with is if I have the tweet stay as the tooltip and have the shapes assigned to each element of the grouping…if i do that I don’t think I can turn them on and off because they are acting as a group and I don’t think you can turn off one axis of the group because it would look weird?? Right? Wouldn’t be able to plot? Back to the drawing board….
Plan B (cuz I’m a Plan B kinda girl)
So I broke it down the backend to make this data plotting easier to understand on the front end because its about the whole picture right, and I think I got it lol… minus the sorting buttons but I think that will be easy to add on once I have the meat of this done and I will probably carry that over from Plan A, no need to scrap a whole plan 🙂
So each grouping has a color & symbol that will be mapped. Each Tweet has a value set assigned to it that has four groupings maybe 5 so each group will be able to be turned on and off and each group will display the Value set at the bottom of the tweet when it is hovered over.
The front end will look a little like this, hopefully, maybe??
Again missing the filters on the side and I would like the legend to be up top I think, but the idea is there and I think I have this broke down pretty well, so we will see after researching this stuff for hours on end I am ready to get it into a computer and move forward!
