I just want to make beautiful things even if nobody cares.
Where to start. To get to know me you would have to definitely keep pace with me. I hit the floor everyday in what I refer to as “Boss Mode”. One of my favorite quotes is:
“Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Boss”
This picture is exactly how I try to tackle everyday: I look the issue directly in the eye and work out the best way to solve it all while not wavering slightly in my heels. So what brings me to KU. Well brace yourself for this journey.
Well the beginning of my career was at South Moon Under where I had every role you can possibly think of. I designed for several years there from quarterly mailers to social media to in store signage–you name it I did it one way or another. Some of my work (Summer 2011 Mailer):
And so much more that you can see on my Behance Gallery. I was there for 6 years and would be remiss if I didn’t tell you I miss my SMU family everyday, but life moved on.
In 2013 I started working for Cambridge International as a Marketing and Creative Coordinator. I handled all print and web marketing as a designer and trade show planning, coordination and execution. I had many successes and great adventures there, I visited Amsterdam, Iceland, Germany and many great cities in the US. Here is one of my booths from Pack Expo 2014 (10×10 Booth for Engineered Solutions Division):
I also handled package design for the Architectural Division (Sample Kit):
In 2015 my position within that corporation was absolved. Lets discuss “panic mode” for a minute, I had never been unemployed a day in my life, what was I going to do next. So once “panic mode” was over I began to reflect on where I had been and where I wanted to go with my new found freedom. In the two years I was with this company I had left behind a job I had for 6 years that was my family for personal reasons, I went through a divorce, moved 3 times, buried two dogs that were my kids and fought for custody of a nephew I had barely known. I know thats a lot but through it all I became so strong and still found time to make beautiful things.
The most beautiful thing, at the end of that chaos, I met the man of my dreams, my saving grace and the decision was made before I even knew it–PA here I come.
In the fall I moved to Central PA and I started working with a small Marketing Agency in Leola. I started as a graphic designer and quickly worked my way up to a leadership role as the Production/Project Manager and Senior Graphic Designer. I design print collateral such as this catalog for a pine furniture dealer (Read More on Issuu):
I also handle website design. I am not a developer by any means I like to lay it out and hand it to someone else to have them make it work. One of my favorite pieces that I have done so far was my puppy website for Infinity Pups, this piece made me smile everyday that I was lucky enough to work on it! (Infinity Pups Website)
Those are just a few of the things I do on a daily basis. I love being a designer and a project manager and I love that PA has brought me to this place in my career where I am building a company with a great team that keeps me motivated and creative everyday.
Friday was my first day as an MFA student and I look forward to seeing how this program will help me be a better designer and reach for new heights I didn’t even know I could achieve. I don’t rest on my laurels, I have been put on this earth with the ability to communicate with my skills and I am humble everyday that I can make a difference. Here is to a great first year at KU!
